DMF Lighting is redefining what’s possible in small-aperture lighting with the introduction of Artafex 1, the first one-inch architectural downlight suitable for whole-home applications. Historically limited to accent use due to compromises in output, glare, cost, and serviceability, one-inch fixtures have never delivered true performance at scale. Artafex 1 changes that and releases at Lightapalooza 2026.

At the core of Artafex 1 is the industry’s only 3-Stage Optic (patent pending) in a one-inch fixture, delivering best-in-class glare mitigation while maintaining exceptional optical clarity through precision glass and silicone optics. The result is up to 1,000 lumens delivered without glare, setting a new benchmark for small-aperture lighting performance suitable for ambient, task, and accent applications throughout the home.

A thirty-five-degree adjustable beam is paired with a precision gear-drive tilt mechanism that enables smooth, accurate aiming and locks securely in place, even during hot aiming. This ensures consistent, repeatable results for installers while giving designers precise control over beam placement.

Powered by DMF’s award-winning PhaseX digital lighting technology, Artafex 1 is the only one-inch fixture delivering tunable white lighting. PhaseX delivers precise color control, flicker-free performance, and ultra-smooth .1% percent dimming, enabling seamless transitions from day to night while supporting circadian lighting strategies with exceptional consistency. Operating over standard electrical wiring, PhaseX provides centralized control, fine-resolution dimming, and flexible zoning, bringing the advantages of digital lighting to new construction, remodel, and retrofit applications.

Installation and long-term serviceability are designed with integrators in mind. A universal AC-to-DC remote driver powers one to five fixtures and can be located up to one hundred feet away. An integral DC Regulator delivers constant current at every fixture for uniform brightness. Both the regulator and light module are serviceable from below the ceiling plane, eliminating the need to disturb finished ceilings.

The new Artafex PhaseX Gateway with Ethernet adds direct Ethernet connectivity, eliminating the need for additional DMX control boxes traditionally required for digital lighting control. By removing these external components, DMF significantly reduces control hardware requirements, streamlines system design, and lowers overall project costs, while improving reliability from installation through long-term operation.

“Through collaboration with control manufacturers, we’re able to remove DMX control boxes from PhaseX installations, reducing cost,” said Mike Libman, Sales Vice President, Custom Integrators, DMF Lighting. “By bringing Ethernet directly into the Artafex PhaseX Gateway, we’re eliminating that extra hardware and giving integrators a cleaner system architecture that simplifies commissioning. It’s a smarter, more efficient way to deliver digital lighting control.”

Commissioning is handled directly through DMF software and can be completed over Wi-Fi, simplifying setup and improving reliability both on-site and during system adjustments. The Artafex PhaseX Gateway with Ethernet also offers native integration with leading control platforms including Control4 and Crestron, enabling seamless communication between lighting and control systems without additional hardware. As part of DMF’s ongoing commitment to open protocols and integrator choice, the company is actively working with additional control system manufacturers to expand native integration options in the future.

To ensure maximum flexibility for the technology integration channel, DMF will continue to offer the original Artafex PhaseX Gateway alongside the new Ethernet-enabled model. This allows integrators to support control systems that may not yet offer native integration while still leveraging the benefits of DMF Artafex PhaseX technology.

The DMF Artafex PhaseX Gateway with Ethernet will be showcased at Lightapalooza 2026, with product availability expected in early Q2.
