A Day in the Life of Design & Sound

Marantz’s 70th anniversary celebration at Spring Studios in Tribeca, New York City, was an awesome presentation.

This past July I got to experience my favorite moment to date within the tech-design industry. TD invited me to attend Marantz’s 70th anniversary celebration at Spring Studios in Tribeca, New York City. Upon arriving, we headed to a rooftop party celebration with the industry’s finest for a once in a lifetime affair. We talked about design, technology and sound with like-minded professionals networking and toasting. What a way to kick off an anniversary. Salut!, as I always say.

My second day with team Marantz was an experience that will stay with me for a long time. You see, growing up I was surrounded by my dad’s love of music. Marantz was the brand and style I remember. The stereo receivers, equalizers and speakers from the past that were on display made me smile and it brought back fond memories from my childhood.

I was one of the lucky designers and influencers to sit in on an aural journey into the world of composition and film, and what a ride it was! The set and stage were decked out in full Marantz style. What stayed with me the most is not only the narrative but the quality of the human voice coming through the speakers. It felt as if you were in the room when they recorded the material and was quite extraordinary.

Last but not least, towards the end of my experience, we got to sit in a listening session in a very cool quiet space. Upon entering through curtains, the room had upholstered walls in a marine blue velvet with square cubes for us to sit on. There were probably 15 or so of us in this room. We were guided by a presentation of music through the likes of studio recordings in different ways while the music came to us in warm acoustical waves. As a listener, you had no choice but to close your eyes and take it all in.

This type of enhanced listening leaves you with a desire of wanting more, traveling through musical performances on the highest level of audio technology. What spoke to me is the fact that Marantz wants to establish a relationship with designers and architects in building beautiful spaces with integrated aural pleasures. It’s important to have these takeaways as educational incentives to grow our businesses and partnerships to better serve our purpose in the work we do, not to mention having the resources to elevate and provide high design.

Thank you to Marantz and my friends at TD. Technology, done right, only enhances our design goals.
