Designing a Home for Multiple Chemical Sensitivities

MCS Course

Sponsored by the Building Biology Institute, this course offers many suggestions for the special home design needs of people living with MCS.

MCS Course

Indoor environments contain concentrations up to 100 times more air pollutants than are extant outside their very doorsteps. While everyone deserves a home and workplace free of such environmental hazards, it is especially crucial for those who suffer from multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS). Removing toxicants and indoor allergens from indoor air contributes to fresh, clean, pure living environments that are essential to rejuvenating and supporting health, vitality, and mental clarity. This course will lead you through designing, remodeling, or simply rethinking a home to eliminate or minimize the surprising number of sources and hideouts of harmful contaminants and steps required to eliminate them from the indoor air you inhale up to 20,000 times per day.

This course offers many suggestions for the special home design needs of people living with MCS. Topics covered include volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, radon, heavy metals, carbon monoxide, mold, moisture control, insecticides, and heating/cooling/ventilation options along with eliminating commonly found indoor allergens such as dust, dust mites, dog and cat dander, pollen, and smoke, as well as proven benign methods for preventing intrusions of residual bacteria from rodents, cockroaches, and other pests.

This course conveys 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
