Publishers’ Letter – Fall 2019

making a difference in the design-build community

WE CONTINUE TO EXTEND THE REACH of our Technology Designer Magazine. Backed by popular demand, we began a monthly TD Newsletter in September that presents original content to enlighten and entertain. We’ve given our writers free reign to cover topics that interest them and serve to stimulate conversations as to the leading trends in green building concepts and the power of technology in today’s performance home.

The really cool thing we’re doing with the new TD Newsletter is that we are growing our audience organically, with targeted growth. Recently, we sent out a request to several trade and association partners and asked if they would get the word out via their own newsletters – and we were blown away by the response! Of the contacts submitted, over 91 percent of respondents signed up for the newsletter. Now keep in mind that these are targeted design-build professionals.

We think the reason our newsletter has taken off so quickly is that it is a reflection of the quality of our content across the board. Think about these topics that were covered in the November newsletter: Virtual Reality headsets and computational prowess to allow designers to ‘walk’ their clients throughout a space, swapping out furniture or wall furnishings to better capture the vision of the homeowner. Or the importance of clean air in our daily lives. Who knew that on average homes are five times more polluted than the air outside the house? And speaking of health, we featured a recent research study led by Boston University that demonstrated how cerebrofluids flush out harmful proteins from our brains during deep sleep and why the quality of your bed, the temperature of your bedroom, and light all play a roll in lulling us into extended sessions of deep sleep.

These topics might appear to be outside the realm of this magazine’s mission, but on closer inspection one realizes that what we’re really all about is that intersection where technology is impacting performance home design – and more importantly – how to deliver healthy environments for those who live in these amazing homes.

So if you haven’t signed up for the newsletter, let us encourage you to subscribe now and get on board. Published the second Wednesday of every month, in a very brisk and easily consumed fashion, we’re exploring ever more topics that impact design and how we build today’s best homes.
